Itinerary
June 14: Depart in the AM from SEA-TAC Airport (SEA). We will arrive together in Mexico City where we will take a shuttle to the Quaker guest house, Casa de los Amigos. Visit the Monument to the Revolution.
June 15: National Anthropology Museum / Rufino Tamayo Modern Art Museum / Chapultepec Park
June 16: Walk to the Alameda Central and Palacio de Bellas Artes to start a tour of the heart of Mexico City. National Cathedral, Templo Mayor, National Palace / Diego Rivera Murals, Palace of the Inquisition.
June 17: Depart by van for Tonanzintla, Cholula, Biblioteca Palafoxiana, Cathedral. Dinner and the Convent of Santa Catarina de Siena in the state of Puebla.
June 18: Free day. A list of suggested activities students might consider will be provided.
June 19: Museo de Arte Popular (MAP) – The Museum of Popular Art / Artists Cooperative EJELE. Walking Tour: Aztec heritage of Mexico City walking tour with historian Pablo Silberman.
June 20: Return to the MAP / Art Co-op. Walking Tour: Porfirian Mexico City walking tour with historian Pablo Silberman.
June 21: Depart after breakfast for TAPO bus station via metro. Board a bus for the pyramids of Teotihuacan.
June 22: Travel to Oaxaca. Students will meet their host families. Meet in the Zocalo for a presentation by Dr. Dormady.
June 23:
Divide: Group A will depart with Joan Cawley Crane for a program of art and weaving in Teotitlan del Valle. Lunch in Teotitlan.
Divide: Group B. will depart with Jason Dormady for a program of Zapotec culture and cooking in Teotitlan del Valle.
June 24: Travel to ruins and churches at San Augustin Etla and San Mogote: Museum of the Hacienda del Cacique, Chapel at Etla, and a discussion of Dominican evangelization in Oaxaca. A visit to the ruins and church in Mogote. A stop at the artists cooperative and paper making artists in San Augustin.
June 25: Outing to Monte Alban:A guided tour of the ruins at Monte Alban and a visit to the artisans of green glazed pottery at Santa Maria Atzompa.
June 26: Tour / discuss the Templo de Santo Domingo and the Basilica de la Soledad.
June 27:
Divide: Group A will depart with Jason Dormady for a program of art and weaving in Teotitlan del Valle. Lunch in Teotitlan.
Divide: Group B. will depart with Joan Cawley-Crane for a program of Zapotec culture and cooking in Teotitlan del Valle.
June 28: Santo Domingo Cultural Center. Oaxaca Textiles Museum.
June 29: Mexican Cinema Workshop.
June 30:
Return to Seattle.
